Grant Goes to the Downtown Des Moines Farmers' Market

I really like to go to the Farmers' Market, particularly for the food items. I am not quite as enthusiastic about the crowds of people. Most of the time, my plan is to sneak out of the house early on Saturday morning and be at the market ready to buy when the bell rings at 7 AM. No purchases are allowed before then. It also gives me time to plan my shopping, eating, and photography strategy.
You have greater selection, and most of the vendors have time to chat with you and offer more insight into their products.
And you can also get photos with the first light of morning, before there are people in your way.
Of course, I always sit down and enjoy a freshly made papusa with hot sauce from Papusas El Salvador.
The Master Gardeners dole out advice as I enjoy my breakfast.
Fresh greens ready for sale.
Street entertainers are beginning to tune up and play.
Purchased farm fresh eggs.
And greens.
Also scored some peas, Amy's favorite, which seem to be plentiful this year.
And of course, radishes and cebollitas.
Pretty flowers are everywhere.
And home spun fibre.
Then about 7:45 or so when the crowds pour in, I walk to my close parking spot and zip out in a flash.
Now that's just my stategy, you should enjoy the market any way you prefer, there are plenty of other things going on later that lots of folks enjoy.
My main focus is to suport local agriculture and have some really good food to eat.
Head out to the Downtown Des Moines Farmers' Market this Saturday.
