Local Eats E. 14th Street Tavern
Oct 16, 2012 We stop in for a drink at Kathy's E. 14th Street Tavern every once in a while - it's a great place to get a good drink for a good price. But it's also a place to get excellent pub grub, so we visited over the weekend and had a very tasty lunch. Located at 3418 E. 14th Street, the tavern is a block south of Euclid and E. 14th.
There is a lot to choose from on the menu. They have all of the most popular appetizers, including their own nachos and buffalo wings, plus homemade soups. You'll find east side favorites like Guinea Grinders and breaded tenderloins, plus their house made tacos are huge and only $2.50 on Saturdays! Burgers are 1/3 pound, and you'll find several specialty homemade pizzas.
And beer. Lots of beer and cocktail specials, too!
The walls are covered with fun signs and sayings, hardly any open wall space. Another place I could sit all day and just read the walls. Several nice flat screens to watch the game, too.
There's a pool table in the back and a great jukebox for tunes.
I ordered one of their specialty pizzas, the Bacon Cheeseburger pizza. It comes topped with burger, bacon, lots of cheese and pickles (I left those off, not a pickle fan). The sauce is a mixture of ketchup and mustard and it was sooo good! Nice, crisp crust, plenty of toppings, this was a great lunch and I had lots left over for another nice lunch later in the week. This pizza was excellent.
Grant was ready for a burger and bartender/cook/all around nice gal, Jana, was happy to customize the chili burger for him. He had his 1/3 pound burger on texas toast with Kathy's famous chili, lots of onions, and cheese. He said the chili was just a little spicy and chockful of burger and tomatoes, just the way he likes it.
Although much more of a bar scene than a restaurant during the night-time hours, the E. 14th Street Tavern is an excellent choice for a tasty lunch or dinner. Tuesdays they have Steak Night for 10 bucks, plus there are great food specials every day of the week. They also serve breakfast! Large servings, friendly staff, and homemade food at reasonable prices - you can't beat it.
