LC's BBQ - Kansas City

Whenever we get to Kansas City, we always try to find a new-to-us BBQ place to try. Grant had read about a little hole-in-the-wall place south of the stadium complex, so with some sketchy directions from my phone, misleading street signs, and 4 arguments about map reading, we finally arrived here - at LC's BBQ.

Located at 5800 Blue Parkway, LC's is a true BBQ joint. It's an order-at-the-counter sort of place, but your food is delivered fairly quickly. This photo shows ALL of the tables in the place, and one of them looks to be the owners' desk there in the back.

Their menu is pretty standard for BBQ places - your basic pork, beef, ham, turkey, chicken, plus a variety of sides. They do make their own sauce too, which you can buy by the bottle, or case, it appears. They also have sodas, some other non-alcoholic beverages, and they do have beer available in a cooler by the counter. We, of course, had a couple of Miller Lites. I mean, we're on a Road Trip here.

Here's the smoker - right behind the counter - can you imagine the pounds of smoky goodness that have come out of here? It smells heavenly in this little dive.

We'd heard that the burnt ends were very popular, so that's what Grant ordered. WOW. These were not your usual burnt ends - you get some pieces with crispy bark (my favorite), some with a little fat, and some pieces of just juicy brisket. The heap of sauce laden meat is piled onto to a couple of pieces of white bread, not that you'll be able to pick it up and eat it like a sandwich! If you prefer to sauce your own meat, you can order your burnt ends (or anything else) 'dry.' We also tried the baked beans and coleslaw - the beans were slightly molasses sweet, and the coleslaw wasn't anything out of the ordinary, however, also very good.

The sauce has a bit of celery seed flavor, and you get plenty of it, but just look at all that meat!

I decided on the pork sandwich with fries - I love fresh cut fries and these were outstanding. Big, square cut fries that were nice and crispy on the outside, but light and fluffy on the inside. Very awesome fries. And the pork? Also awesome! Sliced thin and piled high, this pork sandwich was tender and smokey.

There is actually a 3rd piece of squishy white bread in the middle of this sandwich. Of course, the juices of the meat and the bbq sauce literally disintegrate that piece immediately. I started out picking this sandwich up to eat it, but not for long - you need to dive in with those lovely plastic utensils.

LC's is definitely not the place for you if you're looking for a Country Club Plaza 'Jack Stack' experience - there are no fancy cocktails, or fancy tables, or fancy prices - but if all you're craving is some good 'ol KC BBQ, then program your GPS and be sure to stop in at LC's BBQ! Just don't ask us how to get back there. Kidding! We'll end up there again sometime, I'm sure!
