Friday Food Tour  6.10.11

This rainy weather is definitely challenging my attitude. I've always wanted a backyard pool, but seriously. So pretend it's sunny out and click on this weeks' links.

We've been hearing all the buzz about Americana, the new restaurant in Des Moines' western gateway. Des Moines is Not Boring visited recently and gives us this review. Sounds promising!

Moving on to the East Village, Distilled Opinion gave us his review on Luna Bistro & Catering this week. The food looks just as good as the brick and wood interior. Neat place.

Loved this article by Jim Duncan in dsmMagazine - Sweet! Pastry making in Des Moines. We've got some oh so talented pastry chefs whipping out some sweet treats. Which I need to be eating.

I'm really hoping for a little sunshine this weekend. I need to sit on my patio and have one of these - a refreshing Paloma. Serious Eats has the recipe and you can find the Jarritos Toronja soda at several locations around town - I know they have it at La Tapatia Tienda - that's where I get mine.

And for all of you Angry Birds fans - if you can't get enough of this addictive smart phone game, you'll be so happy to know that Angry Birds will be self-publishing a cookbook of egg recipes. This. is. crazy.

Have a happy weekend.

Jarritos grapefruit! I like ordering a bottle when I go to some mom-and-pop taqueria, but they tend to be sweeter than what I like. I'll ususally settle for lime, but toronja sounds like a refreshing option.

@slakingfool I find that adding a big squeeze of fresh lime cuts the sweetness a little (I'm already addicted to vodka/toronja). I'm just learning to enjoy tequila as a 'sipping' beverage, but this Paloma sounds right up my alley.
