Friday Food Tour 6.17.11

I don't know about you, but this sure seemed like a LOOONG work week. We're ready for the weekend. Be sure to check out this weeks' links before you get started on your own weekend plans.
Serious Eats did a great post this week on La Quercia Dry Cured Tamworth Bacon. Made from the belly of heritage-breed Tamworth hogs, we need to be tasting this soon.
Iowa Girl Eats just keeps coming up with the tastiest looking recipes! These homemade pizza rolls are now on my "can we have this for dinner?" list. They look delicious.
Having grown up on the north shore of Lake Superior, it's sometimes a struggle to live in landlocked Iowa. We're heading up home in August and looking forward to stopping at some of our favorite eateries. The Heavy Table recently featured one of the best little restaurants in Grand Marais, MN, The Angry Trout. We're talking seriously fresh Lake Superior fish.
I don't know how I missed this one, but a couple of weeks ago Food Dude had this great piece, "Eighth Street Rising." It's a look back at the restaurants that used to be - and the restaurants that you'll want to visit now on 8th Street in West Des Moines.
And to finish up this Friday Food Tour, we've had some excellent meals this week that featured meat and produce from local purveyors. Fresh shell peas from Cleverley Farms were so sweet along side our bone-in Niman Ranch pork chops from the Gateway Market. Grant whipped up a wonderful pasta dish featuring La Quercia proscuitto, those wonderful peas, and fresh cream from Picket Fence Creamery. We also had a fresh and flavorful chicken from Foxhollow Farms - Grant brined it for a bit and threw it on the grill - and there was much rejoicing.
Enjoy some local food this weekend!
