Friday Food Tour 7.22.11

And.... we're back! Regular posting will resume after our return from a much needed Iowa Foodie road trip to Wisconsin. We meandered along the Mississippi River and with our extremely scientific conclusion that there is 1 tavern for approximately every 100 people in any Wisconsin town, well, we kept pretty busy.
Here's a few interesting tidbits you may have missed this week.
Des Moines is Not Boring visited Mi Mexico this week on Why Eat at a Chain Wednesday. If you haven't tried one of their shaker margaritas, you need to remedy that - pronto.
Enjoyed FoodIowa's post on the State of the Art of Pork featuring the World Pork Expo. Very interesting reading and some great photos of the excellent pork that was served.
Distilled Opinion headed to the south side of Des Moines for his latest review. Read about his visit to Mezzodi's here.
Have you ever made Mason jar pies? I know Grant's never made them for us, but I'm hoping he will after he sees this recipe from Spain in Iowa. They look delicious.
And the Roadfood.com folks were back in Iowa recently. Their No-Coast Roadtrip 2011: All Iowa, All the Time features restaurants in Le Mars, Sioux City, Dunlap, and Atlantic.
Here's hoping our livers have forgiven us by now. Have a great weekend!
