Friday Food Tour 5.25.12

Woo hoo! The long holiday weekend is finally here. It's such a long haul between those work holidays of New Year's Day and Memorial Day, huh? Hopefully you've got lots of plans to grill and picnic and enjoy a nice cold adult beverage or two.

I love that Slaking Fool has been a foodie long before foodies were cool. In this post, he waxes nostalgic about an old downtown favorite, Something Italian.

When Food Dude lets us in on a new restaurant in town, we pay attention. He knows his stuff and in his latest Cityview column he gives us the scoop on Jose, a new restaurant on Douglas. They serve tongue and cheeks so Grant will be there soon.

Have you been to the new Jethro's Jambalaya, yet? We haven't, but this review from Des Moines is Not Boring's Why Eat at a Chain Wednesday sounds like their newest location will be as successful as their Drake and Altoona locations.

Well, my love for breaded tenderloins in well documented here at Iowa Foodie - and I was glad to see how seriously the rest of Iowa takes their tenderloins! This article from the Des Moines Register features a couple of metro area favorites.

And just in case you didn't have time to make all of your Memorial Day weekend plans, this article should help you out a bit. Serious Eats gives us Drinks for Memorial Day Weekend. Sounds good to me!

I beg to differ with the 'Des Moines is Not Boring' assessment of Jethro's Barbecue and Jambalaya in West Des Moines/Waukee. They didn't even eat any of the Cajun food on the menu, which - in my estimation - was horrible.
