Friday Food Tour  8.17.12

Here's your friendly reminder that you only have 3, yes 3, more days to get to the Iowa State Fair. We had a great day when we went last weekend - ate our way from the grand concourse to the fun forest - our daughter even stood in line for 30 minutes to get us a Double Bacon Corn Dog. Our opinion? It was good - it was our second corn dog of the day, so we obviously like corn dogs - but it just wasn't as bacony as we thought it would be. It did, however, give us some inspiration to make it even better at home!

But let's head onto the Friday Food Tour...

Another chance to learn something from a great post by Cityview's Food Dude - there's a fish farm in Iowa! And you can taste the bounty at Splash. Excellent read.

Des Loines stopped at Menlo Cafe for the latest breaded tenderloin review. It's so nice to know someone else always orders tenderloins when they stop at new restaurants! Check out the new post here.

Cory Eats has changed up the look of his site a bit - I like that you can see several of his favorite places all at once now. Here's his top spots for pizza in the metro.

So, how is your garden doing this summer? Grant has been harvesting plenty of tomatoes and cukes, some green beans - and my brother-in-law gave us a huge squash the other day. If you're overwhelmed with produce, A Little Bit of Spain in Iowa has a great recipe for Spanish Pisto/Ratatouille you might want to try!

Did you know that yesterday, August 16, was National Rum Day? I always try to keep up with booze holidays - like I need another reason to drink, right? Well, if you missed it, no worries - here's 8 new rum cocktails for you to try so you can keep celebrating right into next week.

Enjoy these last weekends of summer.
