Brick City Grill - Ames

For supposed 'food bloggers' in the know, we are not very up on things sometimes. A perfect case in point is our post today on the Brick City Grill in Ames - it's been open almost a YEAR and we didn't even know it was there! A sad fact considering we've been there twice in the last few weeks and enjoyed some great food. Brick City Grill is located in the Somerset neighborhood at 2704 Stange Road in Ames - just a short road trip from the DSM metro.
With an upscale sportsbar-like atmostphere, Brick City Grill is a great place to stop in for drinks, appetizers, sandwiches, awesome burgers, a few stellar entrees, and even dessert. They have plenty of flat screens to watch your favorite sports, and will always gladly put on the Cubs game. Which sometimes can ruin your appetite, but that's not their fault. There is a nice big bar to enjoy your meal, or several booths and high top tables, too.
The menu features favorites like wings, nachos, totchos (tater tots topped with queso, chopped bacon, green onions, and sour cream - this looked really good!), and more for appetizers, fresh salads, sandwiches like a BBQ Pork Ribeye Sandwich and a Beef Brisket Sandwich, plus favorites like Crispy or Grilled Chicken, Fish, Reuben and BLT's. They recently made the Top Ten in the Iowa Best Burger contest and have several choices in burgers - how about a Worchestershire Burger? Or maybe a Bacon Guacamole Burger?
We started off with one of the more unique appetizers on the menu - Dippers are wrapped, fried and ready for dipping - with either Philly or Chicken for choices, or enjoy both with a Double Dipper! We decided on the Philly Dipper - seasoned philly meat mixed with shredded cheese and onion and served with a Monterey Jack cheese sauce. These were seriously yummy - flavorful meat and that queso sauce was creamy and sooo good. We tried hard not to eat all of these so we would have room for our burgers - but I could have eaten all of them myself!
Brick City Grill burgers are made with fresh, local, never frozen Angus beef and quick-seared on their super hot grill to seal in flavor. Grant ordered the Jalapeno Jack Burger - seasoned Angus topped with Pepper Jack cheese, sliced jalapenos, and housemade chipotle mayo. With coleslaw on the side, this is a big meal. The burgers are so juicy and tasty, and the toppings really make the burger unique. The buns are hearty enough to soak up the juices and still hold together, and you always get lettuce, tomato, and onion with every burger. Grant ate all of this beauty.
I went with the Pretzel Burger - fresh Angus smothered with American cheese, bacon, 1000 Island dressing and lettuce served on a warm pretzel bun. You can't see the bun very well here, but it was richly flavored and the texture was perfect. I enjoyed their potato salad with my burger, but there are several sides to choose from including the usual fries, tots, and cottage cheese, or even a side salad or side Caesar salad. I left a bit of the bun, but I ate every speck of the burger - so good!
We're so glad we finally found Brick City Grill - only a year late - and have already invited friends to join us there soon. Service is friendly and efficient, the atmosphere is wonderful and also family friendly, plus you'll really love the food. We highly recommend the burgers and will soon head there for dinner to try their entrees, too - I'm sure we won't be disappointed.
So, if you find yourself in the Somerset neighborhood in Ames, stop in at the Brick City Grill for American-style cuisine that is expertly crafted with attention to detail. We'll be back soon!
