Iowa Foodie is 1!

I can’t believe it’s been a year since we put up our first post on Iowa Foodie! It’s been a fun and interesting year of learning what it takes to blog on a regular basis. We started with an ambitious intention of posting at least 3 times a week about a seemingly endless variety of material – and we’ve ended our first year with a twice weekly posting schedule and a renewed ambition to expand on many food related topics in this next year.
Last January 31 we really had no idea who would be interested in our little food blog – would anyone really read it (I mean apart from our friends and family that are painfully obligated)? I also had no idea what a time suck blogging can be! Lugging around my trusty Canon, reminding Grant to wait! I have to take a picture! at every meal, cropping and resizing images, messing with post processing, writing the posts – it can eat up HOURS. Grant, who has never been much of a recipe following chef, has spent way more time than I’m sure he ever wanted to measuring out ingredients for recipes, writing out exact directions and patiently waiting for me to take photos.
But it really has been fun connecting with other foodies in central Iowa and beyond! We love reading the comments and replies to our postings on the blog, and on our Facebook and Twitter pages. And while there have been plenty of times I wanted to just chuck the whole thing, I’m glad we stuck it out. So even if we didn’t meet every goal we set in the beginning – we still look forward to writing about and photographing all of the things that make the world of food and drink so much fun.
So thanks for sticking around and reading Iowa Foodie! We really appreciate everyone that takes the time to enjoy what we do. And just to reminisce about our first year of food blogging, here are some of my favorite posts from Year One.
Smokey D's - we seriously eat here like once a week
Mexico's Greatest Hits - LOVE the food on Isla Mujeres
The Bar Book - what can I say, we like to have some drinks
The Des Moines Farmer's Market - Grant spends a lot of time at the market
Cafe di Scala - one the best meals we had all year
Chicken Wild Rice Soup - the most popular recipe we posted
Thanks for reading, really. Cheers! Grant and Amy
