Legal Limit Pub & Grill - Boone

Well, what do you know, we're back in Boone. We don't usually spend this much time in Boone (really!), but this place - Legal Limit Pub & Grill - was the place we were looking for last time when we ended up at the Gigglin' Goat!

Located at 702 Allen Street in downtown Boone, the Legal Limit was awarded an honorable mention by the Iowa Pork Producers Association in their 2011 Best Breaded Pork Tenderloin contest. So you know we had to stop in!

It's a nice, clean pub atmosphere at the Legal Limit. Lots of beer on tap, lots of flat screens, drink specials - there's also a pool table and the usual video games. We were there for a Saturday lunch and there were several groups watching the Hawkeye game.

The menu is pretty much what you'd expect at a pub & grill - burger baskets, chicken sandwiches, Reubens, fish sandwich, a Philly - all of it looked tasty and the portions were large. We got ourselves a beer and ordered up some lunch.

Of course, I had to try their award-winning homemade breaded tenderloin. It was BIG. Thick and juicy pork, hand breaded in cracker crumbs and served on a much too little bun. I only put onion on my tenderloins, along with a little ketchup and mayo. This tenderloin was flavorful and quite delish, fried to crispy perfection. The fries were the standard crinkle cut, but were hot and really, the perfect side. Big thumbs up on the tenderloin.

Grant tried the cheeseburger basket. Another excellent choice as this was a nice, big, beefy pattie served up with plenty of onion, pickle, lettuce and tomato. And you can't beat the price - only $5.00 for a burger and fries.

We'll be working our way through more of the IPPA's Best Breaded Tenderloin winners for sure, they really know how to pick 'em. And the Legal Limit will definitely be one of my "go-to" places when I'm craving a tenderloin - it was excellent.
