Friday Food Tour 1.13.12

It's finally Friday - and a Friday the 13th! This seemed like such a long week - actually, the whole month of January always seems LOOONG. Probably because I'm always starting to look forward to a beach vacation. But throw your Friday the 13th suspicions to the wind - it's time for the Friday Food Tour!

Loved this Datebook Diner piece on The Cheese Shop of Des Moines. What a cool place to hang out. Over 100 artisan cheeses, charcuterie, interesting wines and beers - we've got to stop in soon.

In this insightful post, Cityview's Food Dude gives us his view on two new Asian restaurants that opened recently on 8th Street in West Des Moines, Taste of Oriental (TO) and Lemongrass.

It was also nice to see this review of Wasibi Chi on Des Moines is Not Boring's Why Eat at a Chain Wednesday. Named restaurant of the year by the Food Dude, Pete was also impressed. Sounds like the best new place to try.

If you're looking for something fun to do on this upcoming cold January weekend, Living History Farms will be hosting "Farms Uncorked" on Saturday, January 14. You'll enjoy appetizers featuring La Quercia pork products (crafted by local chefs), Iowa wines, gelato from Chocolaterie Stam, and much more. The event will be held from 3:00 - 6:00 pm at the Visitor's Center. A limited number of tickets will be available at the door.
