Friday Food Tour  11.18.11

OMG! Thanksgiving is only 6 days away! It's Grant's favorite holiday, so he'll be putting out a ginormous spread, as usual, for the Iowa Foodie family. This year he ordered our Thanksgiving turkey from the fine folks over at Foxhollow Farms - should be excellent.

And speaking of Thanksgiving spreads, if you're looking for something new to put on the table this year, check out this gorgeous looking recipe for Green Bean Casserole with Crispy Shallots from Iowa Girl Eats. In fact, this yummy dish can hang around our table any time.

I really enjoyed this post featuring East Village's allspice on Des Moines is Not Boring. That is such a cool store - it's great that more and more people are discovering all it has to offer.

Grant buys Maytag Blue Cheese in 5 pound packages, so you know it's a winner with him. Nice to see this post by Michael Stern of Roadfood.com singing the praises of the legendary dairy farm. The post was written in 2002, but just got a reboot on the Roadfood site.

Des Loines keeps cranking out the posts on the biggest and best breaded tenderloins in Iowa. This week he features the "Famous Giant Loin" from the Roadside Inn in Martensdale. It seriously IS giant. We've stopped in at the Roadhouse several times for some cold adult beverages, but it looks like we'll have to make it for lunch sometime soon!

Remember the post we did on our Bar Book? Well, we recently visited our 500th bar (hi to the Flat Tire Lounge in Madrid!) and are still going strong. But Scoooter over at Scooter's Bars is WAAY ahead of us! He's up to 935 bars visited and still counting. We bow to the master.

Have an excellent weekend!
