Cafe Ebenezer's

We were out and about recently, looking for a place for a mid-afternoon snack. Grant remembered that Cafe Ebenezer's had opened on Des Moines' northeast side, so we stopped in to check it out.

Located at 910 Hull Avenue, it's a little off the beaten path, but with a full bar and menu, karaoke on the weekend and a nice patio, we're thinking Cafe Ebenezer's will be a popular place. Owner Kathy Stanford, who also owns the E. 14th Street Tavern, did a complete remodel for the new restaurant and it is a clean, bright, family-friendly space.

We ordered up a couple of beers (nice cold 16 oz'ers) and tried to decide on a couple of appetizers to try. The menu features a wide variety of food including salads, soups, tacos, pizza, burgers, and Italian sandwiches. There is a nice selection of appetizers and a kid's menu. They also run daily specials and bar specials - check out their facebook page for more info.

We tried an order of wings with the hot sauce, not the super hot, but not the mild sauce. They were just right - not burn your lips off blazing hot, but they had a real nice zip to them. Good stuff.

We also ordered some pablano poppers. A nice change from regular jalapeno poppers, they were crispy, had great pepper flavor and were just a little spicy.

Lots of gooey cheese in the pablano poppers, too.

We hope you'll stop in and try Cafe Ebenezer's - we think it's going to be a nice addition to the Des Moines restaurant scene. We're already planning a return visit to try some of the regular menu items since we only enjoyed appetizers on this trip. Let us know if you stop in!
