Friday Food Tour 10.28.11

Well, I definitely stayed up too late last night watching Game 6 of the World Series. All I can say is at least there will be one more day of baseball. AND I can sleep in tomorrow. But on to the Food Tour!
In preparation for the opening of Iowa's first ever cheese shop - The Cheese Shop of Des Moines - here's a post from Serious Eats on 13 Cheeses Everyone Should Know. The Cheese Shop will open soon at 833 42nd Street, Suite B, in Des Moines.
Tickets are now on sale for Iowa's Premier Wine & Food Expo. The event will be held on Friday, November 11, and Saturday, November 12, at Hy-Vee Hall. More than 100 exhibitors with food, wine, beer and spirits for all connoisseurs, plus cooking demos by celebrity chefs. Tickets are $20 for general admission, $30 to include wine tasting.
We've been tasting some really good breaded tenderloins lately (that you'll see in future posts), but it looks like we need to add The Short Stop in New London to the list. Des Loines was there recently and gives us this review. It's a biggun'.
We've been wanting to stop in at Capital Pub and Hot Dog and this post from Slaking Fool has me thinking this is the weekend. And that I'm really hungry for a good hot dog.
It seems like every bar in town is having a Halloween Party this weekend, but if you are entertaining the ghouls at home instead, you might want to serve this - Zombie Gut Punch. This video from Drinks with Alie and Georgia shows you how to mix it up.
Happy Weekend.
