Friday Food Tour  11.04.11

Yay, the weekend is here. This Iowa Foodie's Mom is in town for a few days, so we have plans to eat at several local favorites (hit Smokey D's last night on the way home from the airport - yum), plus catch her main man, Johnny Mathis, in concert tonight at Prairie Meadows. So much excitement.

If you love wine, especially tasting new and different wines, you'd best make your plans now to attend Ingersoll Wine's 2011 Holiday Wine Classic. It will be held on Saturday, November 12, from 5:30 - 8:00pm at the Sheraton WDM Atrium Party Deck. With several wine vendors, an eastern Iowa distillery, and at least two Iowa wineries represented, they are expecting to have more than 120 wines available for sampling. Tickets are $25 in advance, $30 at the door, and are available at both Ingersoll Wine locations until November 11. Even more information available here.

I'm not a big fan of tomato soup, but after seeing this recipe from Iowa Girl Eats - I may have to change my mind. This is no canned or condensed tomato soup - it's fresh... and cheesy! Need to try this soon.

This weeks' Why Eat a Chain Wednesday from Des Moines is Not Boring featured Findlay's Smokehouse BBQ. We've been meaning to try this place ourselves (we tried once, but it was closed for renovation), so it's good to know someone has tried it and liked it!

And speaking of Des Moines BBQ, Food Guy has all you ever need to know about it in his latest post. Awesome photos and some insightful information on all of our favorite BBQ places in town. Don't miss this one.

Finally...in order to form a more perfect union of gelatin and alcohol - I bring you My Jello Americans. If you're looking for a new jello shot for your next weekend get together, look no further than this blog. Seriously, there are some crazy jello shots on this blog. They are truly masters of the jello shot as an art form.

Get out there and enjoy your weekend.
