Ferg's Lounge & My Tighe's Restaurant - Grand Junction

We decided it was time to try another of the burgers on the Iowa Beef Council's Best Burger in Iowa 2012 Top Ten List - this time we headed to Ferg's Lounge & My Tighe's Restaurant.

Located at 806 Highway 30 East in Grand Junction, Ferg's Lounge has been serving up cold beer since 1982. Owner's Mike and Jean Ferguson opened the restaurant side in 2007. It's a nice, clean, big open space - and they have a great patio, too, for these nice summer days.

The restaurant menu is huge - everything from excellent appetizers, including homemade onion rings, breaded pickles and more - to prime rib on Friday and Saturday nights and broasted chicken. The sides like potato salad and coleslaw are homemade and they serve a wide variety of sandwiches. I'd like to go back and feast on the "Ginormous Fish Sandwich" sometime.

But, of course, we were there for the burgers.

The burgers at Ferg's & My Tighe's Restaurant are 1/3 pound, hand-pressed from USDA choice beef and are fresh, never frozen. The signature burger that got them nominated for the Best Burger in Iowa contest is a double bacon cheeseburger that is served with their special sauce. So that's the one I wanted to try - but I knew I would never get through two 1/3 pound patties, so I got a single - you can have spicy or mild sauce - being the wimp I am about spicy, I got the mild sauce. Still, tons of flavor and a great juicy beefy burger. Very worthy of the Top Ten nomination.

Grant went with his usual burger order, the cheeseburger. Of course, he had to ask for lots more onion, which was cheerfully brought to him. These are really hefty burgers, and you can tell the beef is fresh, not frozen - very tasty.

We also shared an order of the homemade onion rings. These were awesome! Thick slices of onion, lightly breaded, fried up nice and crispy. I love onion rings where you can actually taste the onion - these were spot on.

We had a lot of fun talking 'restaurants' with Ferg, too. Being former restaurant owners, we can relate. But the Ferguson's have done an excellent job with My Tighe's Restaurant and it's definitely a local favorite. We're already planning on a return visit to try their prime rib.

Ferg's is definitely worth the short drive to Grand Junction for the burgers - if you're in the area, don't pass it up. And say hi to Ferg for us!
