Friday Food Tour  9.14.12

I am so loving this cooler weather! We had so many 90 and 100+ degree days this year that I feel like I missed half of the summer cooped up in the air conditioning just to stay sane. There will definitely be some patio sitting this weekend. Hope your plans include the same.

Speaking of plans for the weekend, maybe you should consider this... Des Moines is Not Boring gives us all the details (well not ALL, the location is not revealed until Saturday morning) for FlashDineII. What a fun idea! These Iowa Foodies may have to join in.

Local reviews for Restaurant Week are still coming in. The Dish on Des Moines had a great meal at Alba and you can read all about it here.

Smokey D's is one of our favorite restaurants, we seriously eat there every couple of weeks! It was nice to see that Cory Eats is also a fan. Check out this review on the awesome Double Meat Dinner.

Here's something you might want to put on your calendar for October. Baru 66 Chef David Baruthio and Wini Moranville, Des Moines cookbook author and freelance food writer, are teaming up to give diners a taste of everyday French Cuisine. dsm Magazine has all the details here. Make those reservations early!

Grant has been making tomato juice with some of the MANY tomatoes he's grown this year, in addition to all that he has canned, roasted, and eaten hanging over the kitchen sink. So if you've got an abundance of tomatoes yourself, why not try making your own Bloody Mary mix? Serious Eats has this recipe for Heirloom Tomato Bloody Mary Mix. It'll work out perfect for that weekend patio sitting.

Have a wonderful weekend.
