Friday Food Tour  1.04.13

It feels like it's been forever since we last posted something - taking a break sure was nice, but I'm excited for all of the fun stuff we have planned for Iowa Foodie in 2013. There is so much happening on the foodie front in central Iowa! Here's what I found for this week...

As many of you know by now, Gino's on 6th Avenue in Des Moines closed this past week. The Des Moines Register posted this article on the closing of the 46-year-old eatery. We've spent many an evening in Gino's - just the two of us, with family, and with family and friends. It was always a great place to enjoy a cocktail by the 'fireplace' and some wonderful food. We'll sure miss Gino's.

I'm not a vegan by any stretch of the imagination (and neither is Grant!), but after reading the latest column from Cityview's Food Dude on the New World Cafe, Des Moines' first all vegan cafe, that menu sounds pretty interesting!

Iowa wine has come a long way in recent years and they produce so many varieties of wine that there literally is something for everyone. I was happy to see that more and more Iowa restaurants are supporting Iowa wines, too. Check out this interesting article from Midwest Wine Press.

Are you looking for something fun to do during these long, cold, winter months? Want to learn how to prepare some new Italian dishes and have fun doing it? 'Cooking with George' sounds like just the thing.

And speaking of long, cold winters, wouldn't it be nice to get away somewhere warm and sunny? How about a nine day beer festival at sea?! Drinking in America brings us all the details on The California Beer Festival at Sea, and it sounds like an 'ale' of a good time. I couldn't resist. Sorry.

Happy Friday.

New World Cafe sounds really interesting! Of course, I'm always overly excited for trying new places :)
