Friday Food Tour 6.15.12

Another weekend is upon us. Got big plans? There seems to be a teeny tiny chance we'll actually get some rain - Grant will be happy if that happens. Watering the gardens is becoming a daily chore. If you're heading to the Iowa Craft Beer Festival, have a great time. We can't make it ourselves, family reunion weekend! But on to the Food Tour...
Loved this recap of A Rare Affair by FoodIowa. Looks like there was a fabulous showcase of sustainably produced meats by several top local chefs. If you were there, tell us - what was your favorite taste of the day?
After Slaking Fool's post on doughnuts last week, I just knew he'd post something else from that trip to Ankeny. This time he stopped in at one of our favorite places - Leaning Tower of Pizza! Awesome photos show how great their pizza is - and that we haven't been there in way too long.
Another place we haven't been to in forever is La Mie. Loved this post from The Dish on Des Moines featuring reasonably priced breakfast and lunch items at the 42nd Street bakery and cafe.
I think it's cool to see an 'out-of-town' perspective on central Iowa restaurants. Will has been writing restaurant reviews for several years on his Road Tips blog and I enjoyed his take on Hickory Park Restaurant Co. in Ames.
Strawberries are looking good about now, but why limit yourself to the classic strawberry pie or strawberry shortcake? I'm thinking a little something like strawberry liqueur would be pretty tasty! Check out this DIY recipe from Serious Eats. Now where's that bottle of sparkling wine?
Happy Friday - and for all the dads out there - enjoy your day on Sunday!
