The Longest Yard - Dallas Center

On our yearly "avoiding the trick-or-treaters" night (I know, we're grumpy), we decided to take the short drive out to Dallas Center and have dinner at the newest site of The Longest Yard. In the location that formerly housed The Harvest Moon, The Longest Yard is located at 1405 Walnut in Dallas Center.

The Longest Yard is just a few feet away from the new North Loop extension of the Racoon River Valley Trail, so in the summer months it's a popular place with the bicycle crowd. They offer nightly food and drink specials, brunch, a bloody mary bar, and NFL Sunday tickets on the weekends. You'll also find live music and Karaoke on select evenings, plus seven brand new 43" and 60" flat screens to watch all of your favorite sporting events.

The menu is pretty huge with a wide range of appetizers, salads, soups, lots of sandwiches and even some dinner entrees. They feature homemade onion rings and breaded tenderloins, great burgers, wings and nachos with a popular Prime Rib special on Saturday nights, too. There's also a full bar, of course, so you can order up the beverage of your choice. And true to their name, they do have yard and half-yard beers available!

We settled on a nice, cold pitcher of draft beer and took some time to look at the menu.

Grant decided to try the Rarebit Burger - the hefty burger was served on toasted bread and covered with a creamy cheese sauce. Sweet potato fries were hot and crispy.

The menu stated that the homemade breaded tenderloins were a house specialty, so of course I had to order one. A large, juicy tenderloin, the breading was slightly seasoned and had a great crunchy texture. The crispy crinkle-cut fries were a tasty side.

We had eaten at this location several times when it was The Harvest Moon and we were happy to see that this gentlemen stuck around when it was rebranded. Jeff is a great bartender that really knows how to serve customers right, and we always enjoyed talking with him at the bar. That's him on the right, having a laugh with Grant.

If you're looking for a new place to try within a few miles of the DSM metro, head on out to Dallas Center and stop in at The Longest Yard. Great food and great service - we'll definitely return.

Hey daninboulder, yes, you will definitely have to try The Longest Yard when you move back. And don't forget to ride the High Trestle Trail - it goes by about 2 blocks from the Iowa Foodie compound! Lots of fun bar & grill type places on that trail, too!
