Friday Food Tour 11.16.12

I can't believe it's less than a week until Grant's favorite holiday, Thanksgiving!, rolls around again. Have you ordered your local fresh turkey? For the last several years we've ordered our turkey from Foxhollow Poultry Farm and Tai's birds are really tasty. They've finished taking orders for this year, but if you want one, she will be at the Indoor Winter Market at Capital Square on Saturday morning, Nov 17, from 9 - 1 with several sizes on a 'first come first serve' basis. So get there early!
Another thing that's hard to believe is that the beloved south side grocery, Graziano Brothers, has been in business for 100 years. Slaking Fool had a write-up recently about some of their great products. There can't be very many people in the Des Moines metro that haven't had their famous Italian sausage!
It's getting hard to keep track of all of the new breweries popping up in central Iowa - if you like craft beer, this is definitely the town for you. Des Moines is Not Boring featured Ankeny's brewery, Number 7, in a recent post. Sounds like they are doing things right!
Another excellent in-depth post from Jim at FoodIowa on the steakhouse tradition in Des Moines. I didn't know 'Steak de Burgo' had such an interesting past! Check out this great article here.
Des Loines was up in our neck of the woods for his latest post on Cole's Ice Cream in Slater. They have some history behind their breaded tenderloins and they look awesome. His photos always make me hungry.
And finally, the holidays are on the way and you know what that means - that's right, hangovers. So to save you from the pain and agony, Serious Eats Drinks asked bartenders about their hangover cures. Check them out here. You're welcome.
Happy Friday!
